On the basis of science of science techniques — the semantic and content analysis, bibliometria, historical and logical analysis of mathematical statistics, mathematical modelling conducted to identify and analyze the reasons for underestimating the influence of ionizing radiation (IR) in the aftermath of the Chornobyl catastrophe. In total approximately 50,000 of publications of the world information flow on radiation medicine were analyzed. Studies with diametrically opposite conclusions on the effect of low doses of IR on human and ecological environment, the role of genetic effects of irradiation, the shortcomings of dosimetric measurements and methodical publications of ICRP (imperfect dosimetric models, a significant amount of uncertainty), synergistic effects of IR and other factors on health, lack of knowledge about IR: its nature, the impact on human and progeny, the need for further in-depth study of various aspects of the problem (morbidity, mortality, genomic disorders, mental health, reproduction, etc.). derogation, as well as misrepresentation of the consequences of the Chornobyl catastrophe, the concvlusions and recommendations of scientists, as well as the International Conference “Twenty-five years after the Chornobyl catastrophe. Security of the future” were analysed.

Key words: Chornobyl catastrophe, small doses of ionizing radiation, effects on humans and biota, science of science analysis.
